The Sky News app delivers all the latest headlines directly to your smartphone or tablet, via regularly updated news stories – and the option of watching a live stream of the TV station on certain mobile devices. You can also contribute some citizen journalism, by uploading reports and pictures directly to the Sky News team.
The Sky News app gives you on-the-go access to a wide range of breaking news. It has a smart, tabbed bar at the top you can scroll through with a swipe of your screen – so however small your smartphone, you’re not missing out on any headlines.
The tabs on offer are Top Stories, UK News, World News, Politics, Business News, Showbiz and Sport, plus a further ‘Strange!’ option that rounds up weirder reports. Choose a tab and the app then loads a selection of stories you can scroll down vertically, complete with mini picture and headline for each. Click on a story and you get more pictures, info and links.
Once in a story, you can scroll backwards and forwards through other news in that category with a forward/back arrow at the top of the screen. You can also easily link to your Facebook or Twitter accounts to share stories with your friends.
If you want to make the news, rather than just follow it, a 'Your Report' button at the bottom of the app’s screen allows you to send pictures and comment directly to Sky News, along with your contact and location details.
Our only gripe about this Symbian version is that it isn’t as sophisticated as the equivalent apps on other platforms, which offer live TV streaming and additional features. But hey, at least that means you’re not tempted to cane your mobile-data contract watching non-stop news!
Read and share the headlines wherever you are, and even send your own reports to the Sky News team.
